Often times, this might just be due to lifestyle habits bad for your oral health, which you, knowingly or unknowingly indulge in.
These bad lifestyle habits can predispose you to frequent tooth and gum problems even when you do try as much as you can to practice good oral hygiene. These habits range from the choice of food we eat to our day to day activities.

1. Chewing Ice.
Chewing ice is downright bad for the teeth as it will do real damage to the enamel. Due to its very low temperature and brittleness, ice can cause tooth fracture when chewed on as it wears down the enamel and the more the enamel wears down the more prone the tooth is to cavities and teeth sensitivity.
2. Taking Soda Drinks.
Taking soda drinks occasionally might not be deleterious to your teeth immediately, but when it becomes a habit, it then becomes a big problem to your teeth. The sugary and acidic nature of the drinks can easily wear down the enamel and stimulate teeth damage. If you do need to take soda drinks, you should always use a straw to sip the drink and do make sure the straw is positioned towards the back end of the mouth and not towards your teeth. This will reduce exposure of the soda drink to your teeth, thus reducing the risk of teeth damage.
3. Using Your Teeth as an Object Opening Tool.
A commonly done, but bad lifestyle habit which leads to tooth damage is when using the teeth as an opening tool of some sorts. These include using your teeth to uncork a closed can or bottle of soda drink, to open a can of nail polish, to open nylons and bags that have been tied tightly, to pull out the handle of a wristwatch, opening tightly zipped bag or tearing off a piece of cloth. All these practices exert high pressure on your teeth and can lead to fracture and teeth weakening. As much as possible, try to reduce the rate at which you use your teeth as a tool. Always ask for a bottle opener anytime you buy a drink from a shop.
4. Grinding your Teeth.
One bad habit often done without prior planning is teeth grinding. Grinding your teeth, either at night or in the day time, has the potential of wearing off the enamel of your teeth and causing microscopic cracks. A variety of reasons can make you grind your teeth. These may include stress, anxiety and a gap or missing tooth. If you notice that you grind your teeth, see a dentist as soon as possible. Your dentist will recommend a mouth guard for you. This will help protect your teeth when you grind them at night. Also, changes in your feeding habit will may help reduce the teeth grinding habit. You may consider reducing your intake of alcoholic beverages as well as tobacco related products.
5. Using the wrong Toothbrush.
Believe it or not your toothbrush is one very important tool to maintaining good oral health. So using the right type of toothbrush should improve your oral hygiene.
For starters, avoid toothbrush with bristles as hard as a twig. Very hard bristles can do damage to the enamel. Choose toothbrushes that have bristles not too hard and not too soft for good cleaning with good enamel protection.
Pay attention to the type of ends the bristles on your toothbrush have. An ideal bristle should have its bristle ends rounded so that the bristle is not micro-abrasive on the enamel and just basically scrubs it off.
